Woman Arrested For Sex With Teen

Police arrested a Bay County woman for allegedly having sex with a 15 year old boy in a vacant bus belonging to the Boys and Girls club. Club officials say neither Donna Compton or the boy have any connection with the organization. She’s being held on a 75 thousand dollar bond.

Pier Re-Opened After Music Festival

Panama City Beach residents have their Pier back today. The M.B. Miller County Pier was closed for a three day music festival called SandJam. The parking lot should be cleared of tents and stands today.

A Parking Lot Gets New Life

A project one Panama City official has been waiting for seven years is a step closer to happening. The Downtown Improvement Board this week voted to sell a parking lot on Oak Ave to developer Allan Branch. The “News Herald’ reports he plans to turn the land into a small residential unit. DIB member Jane Lindsey says after years of delays, it was time to finally approve a project many have been begging for.

Man Arrested For Having Sex With A Minor

An Alabama man is in trouble for his actions in Panama City. Daulton Chambers was arrested recently for having sex with an underage girl at the Comfort Inn. Police tell ‘News 13’ Chambers is 20-years-old, and the girl is 15. They did not say where the girl is from.

Bay County burglary suspects in custody

SPRINGFIELD, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Local schools were put on lockdown as deputies and K-9 officers pursued two burglary suspects in a Bay County neighborhood, Thursday. Springfield police say a tip led them to two teens after one of them was spotted jumping a fence in the 800 block of School Avenue, where a number of homes have reportedly been robbed. Springfield police say both burglary suspects are now in custody and are facing misdemeanor charges.

Franklin County murder suspects apprehended in dumping of woman’s body

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. – Two suspects are behind bars in connection to the death of a woman found on the side of the road in Franklin County Monday. Authorities say the victim and two others were all on vacation together when they believe there was an altercation that led to the woman’s death. Police say the suspects then dumped her body on the side of Highway 98 as they headed back to South Florida.

Bay County schools lose power

PANAMA CITY – Even though a judge ruled against a lawsuit filed by Bay and 13 other school districts challenginh the omnibus education bill, HB 7069, passed last session. The suit argues the bill violated the Florida Constitution in taking power away from local school boards. School Board officials said they will continue the fight in appeals court

Manhunt ends with drug bust

PANAMA CITY – A manhunt for the suspect in Monday’s armed robbery of a Christian academy in PC ended with a drug bust. PCP pulled over, Shawn Dale Smitherman, 28, during their search of the Cove neighborhood Tuesday night, and officers found four baggies containing methamphetamine, according to an arrest affadavit. Smitherman appeared in court Wednesday on multiple drug and child endangerment charges, the NewsHerald reports.

Feeling was mutual for new city manager pick in PC

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – The feeling was mutual among commissioners who interviewed General Mark McQueen at Tuesday’s meeting to become Panama City’s new City Manager. Commissioners unanimously agreed to offer McQueen a contract. He would start full time in October, the NewsHerald reports.

Lynn Haven man facing charges after “rough game” injured child

Lynn Haven, Fla. – A Lynn Haven man is charged with child abuse after a girl reported that he played a “rough game” with her. The girl told Lynn Haven officers that during the “Get-on Game” Kevin Saldana threw litter boxes at her and held her up by her wrists and shook her, the arrest affidavit states.
