Bus stop shooting NE of Panama City sends teen to hospital

CRESTVIEW – A 13-year-old boy was rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital after being shot early this morning at a bus stop NE of Panama City. According to a spokesman for the Crestview Police Department, which is investigating the shooting, another teen, who is considered a possible suspect in the shooting near Williams and Rayburne Streets, is in custody.

Panama City Beach woman charged with insurance fraud

PANAMA CITY BEACH – A Panama City Beach woman has been charged with insurance fraud. Police say she drove her SUV into Grand Lagoon, then reported it stolen to claim the insurance money. The 65 year old was arrested after police said the vehicle, found submerged in the water at Dolphin Drive and South Lagoon Drive, “appeared to have been placed there purposely,” according to a Bay County Sheriff’s Office report.

No one injured in house fire west of Panama City

SPRINGFIELD – An abandoned home west of Panama City was destroyed after it went up in flames Monday afternoon. The Springfield Fire Department said crews battled the blaze at a home on 11th Street and School Avenue, for hours before it was contained. The cause of the fire was undetermined Monday.

Dead bunnies lead to drug bust

PANAMA CITY – A report of dead rabbits at a Panama City home ended with a drug bust. According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, a 48 year old woman was arrested at a residence on Brady Way Thursday and is facing several drug charges, as well as seven counts of animal cruelty following a joint investigation by Bay County Animal Control and the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. The homeonwer was being held on a $15,000 bond, Friday.

Bay Haven Charter facing gender discrimination suit

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A former teacher has filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against Bay Haven Charter Academy. The lawsuit alleges the school failed to place female employees in roles they were well-qualified for. The former employee says she was also fired after voicing opposition.

Speeding blamed for fatal motorcycle crash north of Panama City

(WJHG/WECP) – Speeding is being blamed for a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday morning north of Panama City on I-10. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcycle was in the right turn lane of the eastbound exit ramp on I-10, when the bike crashed into the guardrail, and skidded into the south grass ditch. Troopers said the driver was critically injured.

An 18 year old was killed in a motorcycle crash just north of Panama City

(WJHG/WECP) – An 18 year old was killed in a motorcycle crash just north of Panama City, Sunday night. According to troopers, a car turned in front of the teens motorcycle on Peel Road and State Road 77 in Washington County causing the fatal collision. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Three people were taken to the hospital after an accident on Highway 231

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Three people were taken to the hospital after an accident on Highway 231 at Titus Road Sunday. According to Florida Highway Patrol, a driver was reportedly attempting to cross State Road 75 from Titus Road when it collided with an on coming pickup truck causing the car to overturn in the middle of State Road 75. Troopers said both drivers and one passenger were injured in the crash.

Talks Continue On Teachers Contract

The Association of Bay County Educators and the bargaining team for Bay District Schools will meet again today to try to come up with a final agreement contract that includes salary and sharing the cost of a health insurance premium increase. So far both parties appeared to agree on the 50/50 share of the insurance increase. The two sides are growing closer on a salary sgreement.

Man Arrested On Child Porn Charges

A Panama City man is facing charges after investigators say they found child porn on his computer. Jose Brown was arrested Friday on one count of promoting the sexual performance of a child and ten counts of possession of child porn. During an investigation into child porn, detectives found an I.P. address belonging to Brown on the network, they searched his computer. They say there were numerous pictures showing children in sexually explicit positions on his computer.
